Eric Carle - "The Very Busy Spider"We read Eric Carle's "The Very Busy Spider" and then used sentence strips to read main sentences from the story. We tracked the print by pointing to each word while we read and continued to discuss what to do when you get to a word you don't know. Then we put on character crowns and acted out the story.
Eric Carle - "Little Cloud"We read "Little Cloud" by Eric Carle. After reading the story we took turns tracking the print and reading sentence strips from the story. We pointed to each word as we read aloud and we discussed what to do when you get to a word you don't know. We said that we can use pictures to give us a clue and then look at the word and sound it out. Then we created and painted our own "Little Clouds".
Eric Carle "Today is Monday"We read "Today is Monday" by Eric Carle and then worked together to put the story in order. We discussed the days of the week and took turns putting the pages in order. We also sung the song and compared it to the version we usually sing by Dr. Jean. Then we wrote our own version to the song.
Today we read Eric Carle's "The Mixed-Up Chameleon" and discussed the important story elements. Then we took turns coming up and reading sentences from the book on sentence strips. We tracked the print by pointing to each word as we read. We noticed the repetition in the book. Then we discussed animals and came up with a bubble map of different animals. The students were then encouraged to think of animal they wished they were like. They were asked to draw a picture of themselves like that animal and write a sentence using the same story structure. They were very excited to get to work drawing their detailed pictures and writing the sentence. |
